Hi Ron & Heather, I’ve wanted to write something about my personal experience with ProActive Fitness for that past couple of years, so here it is.

I started coming to ProActive in the early part of 2015. At 59, it was the first time I had gone to a gym in my life outside of school. I was looking to get into better shape and shed a few pounds in the process. From the beginning Ron, Heather and their staff were very helpful and the atmosphere in the gym was very inviting and relaxed and not in the least way intimidating or uncomfortable. I went fairly steady through the spring and into the summer, was feeling better, most of my aches and pains were gone but the nicer weather saw my attendance dwindle.

Near the end of 2015 I started coming back on a regular basis. That’s when Heather lent me a copy of the book “Younger Next Year” written by a Dr. and a regular guy. The book outlined their take on fitness based on a lot of research, historical data along with a healthy dose of common sense and humor. I read the book and at the beginning of 2016 I started to follow the books suggestions on how to become younger next year. Now I was never an ‘athlete’ or played competitive sports but I like riding bikes, downhill and cross country skiing, swimming and water skiing. I wasn’t a total sloth, but nor was I as active as I should have been.

As I approach the end of 2016 I’ve spent the past year trying to stay faithful to the routines in the book and have succeeded about 75% of the time, OK, maybe it’s closer to 64.1% but who’s counting.

What I can say after this past year is that the change for me has been very positive, bordering on dramatic! When I started at the gym, I couldn’t run for 30 seconds on the treadmill without pain and discomfort taking over. At 60 I can now run 30 minutes at a time and still have gas in the tank. My overall strength has improved and my stamina has never been better. After 3 months on the program I was downhill skiing stronger and longer that I had at any time in my life and for me, that was worth all of the effort. I credit “Younger Next Year” for inspiring me to at least try and the results are awesome. As long as I’m working out I have no aches or pains, my energy level is excellent and I ALWAYS leave the gym feeling better and more energized than when I came in. I do 30 – 45 minutes a day 4-5 times a week, take weekends and holidays off and like to workout early in the morning as it sets me up for the rest of the day.

All I can say is if your 50+, you’re not feeling as well as you’d like and your activity level is declining, drop by ProActive Fitness and ask Heather or Ron to lend you a copy of ‘Younger Next Year and make the change to get your life back!

"I joined ProActive Fitness shortly after it opened. The staff is very knowledgeable and always there for instruction and advice.

I have found the line of equipment to be superior to any I have used in other gyms. The strength training equipment uses air to establish the level of resistance. This eliminates the need to stop and manually switch weights. The cardio machines all have the same easy to use touch screen console. This makes the transition from one machine to another very easy.

Powerplate

I use the machine 4-5 times weekly for about 30 minutes each time. The strength, massage, stretching and relaxation exercises leave me feeling totally invigorated and relaxed. In combination with other regular exercise and healthy nutrition I have lost 15% of my body fat, 3" from my waist and 2" off my hips in six months. I am almost 67 years old and have never felt more healthy and fit in my adult life.
